PRICES were unchanged for a very select and small number of cattle in a larger offering at VLE Pakenham.
Along with the larger supply came some plainer quality but overall the yarding was mostly of useful to very good quality.

Competition was less and demand was generally weaker which saw prices fall on average between four cents and 12 cents per kilogram.
There were more vealers penned and most were in good condition.
The best quality B muscle vealers made between 200 cents and 227 cents but most of the 280 head were C muscle calves that made from 165 cents to 210 cents per kilogram.
Providing these cattle were not too heavy, prices were three cents to five cents cheaper but some of the heavier calves weighing more than 400 kilograms liveweight were eight cents per kilogram cheaper.
A larger number of around 630 yearlings were penned with a good percentage being supplementary fed steers and heifers.
The very best of these weighed just under 400 kilograms and made 229 cents, which was six cents per kilogram cheaper.
However, with a number weighing more than 400 kilograms, prices varied between 183 cents and 215 cents per kilogram.
Other yearlings made from 156 cents to 185 cents per kilogram showing some of the larger price falls.
There was a good number of older steers and heifers penned, which sold to weaker demand, and less competition.
