TOORADIN’S opening bats easily ran down Catani’s score for a win in the Kookaburra Cup Twenty20 game at the weekend.
Catani, batting first got off to a flier being 0/51 from six overs until Aaron Avery had opener Bob MacDonald caught at mid-on.
The brakes were put on when Matt Finch claimed two wickets in three balls, finishing with 2/16 from three overs.
The screw was further tightened when Mat Walker took a sensational catch at mid-wicket running with the flight and diving at full stretch to dismiss opener Craig Stone for 41 from the bowling of Ash Adams.
Two balls later, Adams had completed a remarkable hat-trick, finishing with 3/24.
From 6/74 after 11 overs, Catani worked to amass a defendable total, but a Dave Freeman run-out, and Aaron Brooks clean bowling the last two, left Catani with only 113 from 18.2 overs.
Tooradin openers Cal O’Hare and Dave Freeman were untroubled in scoring the runs from only 12 overs – Freeman with 44 from 37 balls and O’Hare 64 also from 37 balls including three sixes.
