CHRISTMAS shopping in Pakenham will be more accessible for all thanks to an early gift from new shopping centre developer Woolworths.
Last month Woolworths senior development manager Lindsay Rowles told the Pakenham Business Group that no car parks would be closed over the Christmas period as originally planned.
The announcement means that Pakenham businesses could reap the benefits of having more parking than ever before.
Pakenham Business Group president Jo Staindl–Johnson said the promise to keep the car parks open during the Christmas period was a positive for the whole town.
“The co-operation from Woolworths obviously allows us to look forward to the Christmas season and leaves us not having to worry about where our customers will park,” Ms Staindl–Johnson said.
“Pakenham will now be more accessible than ever before.”
Ms Staindl–Johnson praised the developer and Cardinia Shire Council for their support to ensure parking in the town wouldn’t be affected during the silly season.
“Christmas is a very important time for us shopkeepers,” she said.
“It’s really important that our customers have somewhere to park.”
Construction of the shopping centre is expected to begin before the end of the year with the centre opened by the third quarter of 2011.
