Tooradin advanced to the semi finals of the Kookaburra Cup with a convincing win over Pakenham on Sunday 6 December.
Batting first after winning the toss, Tooradin made 9/185 from their allotted overs with Cal O’Hare leading the way making 59 from 42 balls including four sixes and five fours.
Other contributions came from Ash Adams (31 from 12 balls including two sixes and three fours) and Aaron Avery 17 from nine balls.
Avery was to feature later on in Pakenham’s innings when they had advanced to 30 from five overs. Avery completed a hat trick dismissing McCormack, Anning and Johns with successive balls in his first over. He finished with the fine figures of 4/19 from three overs.
With Pakenham well behind the run rate at 4/74 after 10 overs, Aaron Brooks was brought into the attack. Brooks had previously taken two wickets in his previous Twenty20 match against Catani and his first ball clean bowled Ryan Kitchin giving Brooks a hat trick over two matches. He wasn’t finished there.
Egged on by his team-mates to make a ‘legitimate’ hat trick in one innings, he dismissed Dom Paynter and Andrew Millar in his next two balls, completing his hat trick and also an amazing five wickets in five consecutive balls – a triple hat trick over two innings. Pakenham were all out for 89 when Ash Adams took the last wicket in the 15th over.
