PAKENHAM Arthritis Self Help Group will host a reunion for past and present members this year to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
The group was formed in early 1991, with members taking part in warm water exercises at Bicentennial Pool.
Lorna McKane and other original members worked tirelessly to raise money for the pool to be built. It was opened in 1988.
In 1994, the group become affiliated with Arthritis Victoria and was incorporated. Accredited training for leaders also started around this time.
Chair exercises and Tai Chi began in November 1994 at the Pakenham Guide Hall, where the group also had meetings before moving to Cardinia LiFE in 2006.
The chair exercises, Tai Chi and meetings moved to the Pakenham Senior Citizens Club.
Members come from a wide area, from Dandenong to Bunyip and Emerald to Lang Lang, and the group now has about 140 members who are aged 50 to 90.
As well as arthritis friendly exercises, the group has a strong social aspect with special meetings, talks, demonstrations and outings.

The group will celebrate 20 years with a function at Pakenham Senior Citizens on 6 May.
