JACK Gilchrist, with the help of others in the community, raised $2680.50 from a car boot sale in aid of the flood relief.
The 12-year-old Lang Lang resident said the sale, which was held on Saturday, was a great day and a big success.
“Two Rotary men, Brian Candy and Jan Kruizinga ran the barbecue,” Jack said.
“The Lang Lang Butchers supplied the sausages and were kind enough to donate some more when we ran out.
“Mandy from the Lang Lang Bread Shop Cafe gave us seven loaves of bread for the barbecue and Rotary supplied the stalls.”
Locals got in on the action through selling goods and making donations, and Jack said between 200-400 people visited the sale.
“There were heaps of people giving donations into our donation tins, which helped our tally,” he said.
“The best thing about the whole day was that Sue Carson, the manager from Lang Lang Bendigo Bank donated $1500 towards the relief.”
Jack said he had wanted to do the car boot sale a while ago, for a different purpose but wasn’t able to.
“I thought it would be great to do it for the floods because (the victims) were suffering so bad,” he said.
