President’s address

ANDREW Broad, president of the Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF), will address the Agribusiness Gippsland conference dinner in Morwell on Wednesday 2 March.
The dinner will be a highlight of the conference, which will examine agribusiness in a low-carbon economy.
Chairman of Agribusiness Gippsland, Alex Arbuthnot AM said: “I am delighted that Andrew is attending acceptance of our invitation.
“As the youngest VFF president, he brings a great deal of energy and enthusiasm to support a contemporary outlook not only for the VFF, but to agribusiness in general.”
Mr Broad is one of many notable speakers at the conference.
Mr Arbuthnot said that the conference has attracted a range of presenters who have specialist expertise and a great deal of knowledge to share.
“In the current conversations on climate change, reduction of carbon emissions and the consideration of alternatives, this conference will provide a wealth of information – including projects that can be adopted by smaller enterprises,” he said.
Included among the speakers is Anna Skarbek, Executive Director, Climate Works Australia; Mike Angwin, Executive Director, Australian Uranium Association and Liz Hamilton, Senior bio-energy industry officer with Department of Primary Industries.
Charlie Speirs, from Clean Coal Victoria will outline the work being advanced by his organisation and Ed Gibson, Managing Director, Sundermann Water Power will explain the development of a project for wave energy technology that can be used in a broad range of situations.
Dr Donald Payne from Direct Energy Technologies will talk about the application of geothermal heat pumps to provide affordable heating and cooling that enables people and small business owners to lower their energy bills, reduce their carbon footprint and improve their quality of life.
Geosequestration will be addressed by Tony St Clair from MBD Energy which processes CO2 above ground in a carbon-recycling process that produces large quantities of fresh water and oxygen.
The conference will be held at the Italian Australian Club, Morwell, on 2-3 March.
