Cream couple rise to the top

By Delima Shanti
IT takes a special kind of love for people to stay together for as long as 70 years.
Whatever that special kind of love is, it’s safe to say Len and Mary Bramley from Nar Nar Goon have got plenty of it.
It started many years ago at the Korumburra Butter Factory, when Mary was working at the cream office and Len was in the store.
Len called on a boy to send a note to 17-year-old Mary, asking her to go to the pictures with him. Mary replied with a simple “yes” and the rest, as they say, is history.
The pair celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary on 18 January, surrounded by friends and loved ones, included their four sons and their wives, nine of their 11 grandchildren and 13 of their 17 great-grandchildren.
“You have to marry young, stay together and live for a long time,” Mary said when asked if there was a secret to a long-lasting marriage.
Mary and Len have a long list of achievements under their belts as active members of the community.
Besides raising their sons, they were involved with the Springvale Benevolent Society and Action Aide, where both are life members. They were also active in the Noble Park Uniting Church, with Mary teaching Sunday school and acting as choir mistress for many years.
Among those celebrating with the happy couple were Russell Broadbent, MP, who gave the couple letter of congratulations. They also received acknowledgements from the Queen, the Prime Minister and Governor General, which were all read out.
