Councillor quits police

CARDINIA Shire councillor Stuart Halligan has resigned from Victoria Police.
Last week Cr Halligan pleaded guilty to four of the 11 offences he was charged with – two counts of using a phone service to menace, one count of possessing a silencer without a permit and one count of failing to properly store a handgun or long-arm ammunition.
He was fined $1000 on the fire arms charges without a conviction being recorded and put on a two-year $2500 good behaviour bond on the telephone charges. The other charges were dropped.
The council’s spokesman, Paul Dunlop, said Cr Halligan would remain a Cardinia Shire councillor.
