TOORADIN travelled to Upper Beaconsfield with five wickets needed and only 18 runs to defend. Despite tight bowling the breakthrough was not attained early enough and it was well beaten by a more disciplined team. After two disappointing games Tooradin’s destiny, a spot in the top four, now remains in its own hands against Kooweerup on Saturday.

After making an imposing 318 the previous week, the Tooradin bowlers worked hard to dismiss Gembrook for 116. Openers Sam Clarke (1/24 off 18 overs) and Jarred Thompson (1/11 off 13) set the standard early, bowling with great line and precision. Kane Latham, Daniel Quinn and Craig Dicks chipped in with wickets to leave Gembrook reeling at tea on 6/88 off 48 overs. After tea, Craig Dicks (4/10) and Michael Ralph (2/14) bowled out the remaining batsmen for a total of 116.

Chasing 137 on a slow Rutter Park, Tooradin started well against Pakenham Upper/Toomuc with Bun O’Hare and Mick Freeman taking the score to 39 before Freeman was out for a patient 17. From there, some good bowling and the slow ground prevented the Gulls from any real partnerships. O’Hare hung in for 29 with Adam Richmond (16) the only other batsman to reach double figures. The home side was eventually dismissed for 79 in the 53rd over and will need to win next week to keep their finals chances alive.

After losing an early wicket to Lang Lang, Tooradin soldiered on steered by Shane Sutton (20). Other contributions came from Adam Splatt (14), Nic Simpson a patient 17 and Luke Adams in his first senior match remaining 14 not out as Tooradin passed the home side’s score for the loss of five wickets, eventually being all out for 107 to take second spot from Lang Lang.

Tooradin Red, defending 89 runs, played Beaconsfield at Lakeside Oval. Jasper Donaldson got Tooradin off to a solid start snaring 2/13 from his six overs. Dylan Sutton took 2/20 and Luke Adams 1/17 but Beaconsfield’s steady batting saw it pass Tooradin’s score for four wickets down.

Tooradin played the second game against a much-improved Nyora and had a close game. Tooradin batted first to score 68 with Ned Harrison top-scoring with 17. Jordan Stuart 12 and Alex Johnson 11 were the next highest scorers. When Nyora batted, Michael Miller took a wicket in his first over. Josh Burdett took a well-judged catch. Kaden and Tristan both took two wickets in Nyora’s score of 69 in a good game by both teams.
