Dawn’s cooking up a storm

By Miranda Luby
BERWICK is soon to have its own little army of master chefs when Dawn Gilpin restarts her cooking classes for kids next month.
After the birth of her fifth child, Dawn was so busy that she had to stop her popular classes but with constant emails and phone calls since then, she has finally decided to give the people what they want.
Dawn believes the popular TV show Junior Masterchef is the reason for the sudden rise in kids’ passionfor cooking.
“I’ve been bombarded by people begging me to restart my classes lately,” she said. “Boys especially seem to be excited about cooking.”
The classes, to be held four times a week from the beginning of term two, will allow the kids to get their hands dirty and create some amazing food.
The five to 13 year-olds will be making everything from slices to home-made pasta and after class they have to wash all their dishes and put them away. At the end of the term they are presented with their very own recipe book.
Dawn’s own kids, ranging from very young to 14 years of age, all love to cook and will be helping out in the kitchen as much as possible.
Dawn, who says her passion for cooking comes from her multicultural background, is keen to write her own cooking books in the future.
“I want to write one for kids and one for adults called recipes from around the world,” she said.
If you want to get your kids involved in Dawn’s cooking classes, contact her on 0421 335 795.
