PAVE way to arts

THE streets of Emerald will come alive when the 2011 Performing and Visual arts in Emerald Festival (PAVE) opens next month.
Kicking off on Wednesday April 6, PAVE is one of the most popular arts festivals within the hills and Emerald’s biggest event for the year.
The purpose of the festival is to bring the streets of Emerald alive and build community strength through the arts.
Music is a big part of the festival. The stellar event, 3MDR’s Women and Song night will open the festival at the performing arts complex “The GEM”. This year’s event welcomes back Monique Brumby, as well as newcomers to the event, but certainly not the Australian music scene, Cyndi Boste, Lisa Miller and Tiffany Eckhardt.
The headline event GrooveFest is featuring Joe Camilleri, The SKA Vendors with Kerri Simpson and local singer songwriter of international fame, Lloyd Spiegel. The local up and coming duo Lily and King will add more sugar and spice to the event.
This year the much-loved Emerald Winterfest returns in a new guise – as the Emerald Funfest. It will be held on Sunday 10 April and will bring the PAVE festival to a close with a bang. This year’s Fest will have a Steam Age theme, featuring historic displays, period costumes, street performers and special activities at Puffing Billy railway station.
Stalls will feature local handmade and home grown items as well as community stalls.
