Councillor Stuart Halligan said the intensive animal husbandry (worm production) had been going for years – but council officers had been alerted to the site and told the owners they required a permit.
“The business is on a 1900 square metre site,” he said.
“The worms are fed with pig manure, and there is roughly 120 kilograms of worms harvested and packaged each month.”
He said the operation would need to meet stringent conditions to keep their permit on the site.
“It is important for the five objectors to know that the council has taken their concerns seriously,” he said.
“That’s why so many conditions have been placed on the permit.”
