RECENT floods in Cardinia Shire have prompted the council to issue an alert to owners of septic tank systems and private water sources.
Cardinia Shire’s environmental health manager Sean La Fontaine said residents “should be aware that floods may have affected these systems and if so, of the potential health issues that may arise”.
If residents suspected their septic tanks or private water sources had been affected, they should not flush their toilets or use their private water for drinking, bathing or for their pets.
They should also contact a licensed plumber immediately to arrange an inspection.
