JUNIORS came from as far as Inverloch and Waverley to contest a junior graded singles tournament on 18 plexi-cushion courts at the Pakenham Regional Tennis Centre on Sunday.
Tournament director Paul Osborne was relieved when the rain cleared and players took to the courts.
“To see the courts full of junior tennis players was just fantastic,” Osborne said.
“The outstanding behaviour of the players and the fantastic support of the parents is a true indication tennis in the Cardinia Shire and beyond is heading in the right direction.
“We look forward to hosting more tournaments.”
Adam Gronek beat Samuel Hae Hae 8-7 to take the A Grade title; Raffy Becatan downed Cameron Kelly 8-4 in B Grade; Dylan Cleven won C Grade, downing Travis Chapman 8-5; and D Grade went to Mataio Hewitt, who beat Joel Motta 8-4.
Junior graded singles tournaments are held on a monthly basis at the tennis centre, with the next on 5 June.
There will also be a combined junior and senior tournament for all grades on 11 and 12 June.
