Luck is their lady tonight

WARRAGUL Theatre Company’s opening night of Guys and Dolls was held on Friday 15 May at the Warragul Arts Centre. The performance was entertaining.
A brilliant set design, costumes and lighting allowed those on stage to travel back in time.
Guys and Dolls is placed in the mid-20th Century in the ghettos of New York with gangsters and high-rolling illegal gamblers.
The show focuses on the highs and lows of trying to make it big in the illegal gambling scene, dodging the cops, and trying to keep their women happy.
Meanwhile, missionaries are trying to persuade these gamblers to repent and confess their sins.
The show is full comedy, mischief, music, dance and fun. Many of the main characters were played by a young cast.
This was an encouraging move by the directors as they are obviously investing in their young talent.
With this in mind The Warragul Theatre Company’s future is in good hands.
Musical Director David Williams and his talented band bring the best of best throughout the whole show. The work he had obviously done with a noticeably strong chorus line paid off, as the chorus songs such as “Luck Be A Lady Tonight” and “Sit Down You’re Rocking The Boat” were the highlight of the show.
The feature dancing was endearing and highly enjoyable to watch.
A special mention to the actors who played Sarah Brown, Nathan Detroit, Sky Masterson, Nicely-Nicely Johnson, and Adelaide who all embraced the characters and made the part their own.
They were enlightening and illuminating to watch.
On opening night is always difficult to find your feet, and a few glitches here and there need to be fixed. However, I am sure they will be by the next performance.
Guys and Dolls is a show for all ages to enjoy.
