Sam’s Street Talk hits Main Street

By Emma Sun
MAIN Street shoppers were treated to a surprise appearance from Sam Newman at 1pm yesterday.
Sam and a Channel 9 television crew were in Pakenham to film Sam’s segment ‘Street Talk’ for The Footy Show.
Technology-savvy locals whipped out their camera-phones in a bid to catch Sam in action as he chatted to old and young.
Pakenham resident Ray Staindl bared his chest for the cameras and Damian Stafford showed his planking pictures to Sam, a fellow planker.
A local lady even presented Sam with a ball and chains to “chain down” the wealthy presenter.
Sallyanne Spencer, who lives in Pakenham, was visiting her grandma when she heard about it.
“We jumped in the car and came straight down,” she said.
Ms Spencer said Sam’s presence was fantastic publicity for Pakenham.
“It’s something exciting,” she said. “I’ll definitely be checking out The Footy Show now.”
When the Gazette asked Sam a question out of its Take 10 section; what would you do with five million dollars?, his response was as witty as ever.
“I’d buy Pakenham,” he said.
“And with the remainder, I’d buy Cockatoo and Drouin, too.”
