AMEMBERof Pakenham Red Cross has been rewarded for 10 years’ long service.
“I couldn’t believe I’d done 10 years,” Meryl Waterhouse said last week.
The presentation was made at the Pakenham Red Cross Unit annual general meeting at Meadowvale.
About 30 people were present to hear about the unit’s successful year of various fund-raising efforts, including assistance at the Blood Bank and support for the breakfast program at Pakenham Consolidated School.
Members had also helped at the Flood Recovery Centre in Bunyip.
The guest speaker was Katie Hall from Donate Life, who spoke to the group about organ donation.
Cardinia Shire Central Ward Councillor Brett Owen took the chair for the election of the 2011-’12 office bearers, with Lyn Stephenson as president, Meryl Waterhouse as secretary and Pauline Grey as treasurer.
Ms Waterhouse was presented with the 10-year long service medal to recognise her dedicated service throughout the years.
Ms Stephenson gave her the medal, which Ms Waterhouse said was a huge surprise.
“I didn’t know about it at all – they just sprung it on me.”
Ms Waterhouse said being part of the Red Cross was something she had always enjoyed and she would continue volunteering for as long as she could.
“I enjoy it and I enjoy the company of the new people,” she said.
