Slow change in Koowee

THE old PMP site in Kooweerup will be dormant for at least two more months, as the mortgagee in possession decides what to do with it.
Earlier this year, the former print works was taken over by the Westpac Banking Corporation when the owner defaulted on the repayments.
Paul Sutherland from Sutherland Farrelly Real Estate in East Melbourne explained that there were some factors to be considered before the property at 9-15 Station Street would be put on the market.
“There’s still some things to work out. It will probably go on the market in the next couple of months,” he said.
In recent weeks, the Kooweerup Township Committee members noticed that the locks were changed on the site.
Last year, the committee wrote to the real estate agent asking for the site to be cleaned up and maintained.
“It was a problem with vegetation. I received a letter back from the real estate agent saying that they were aware of the problem of the overgrown vegetation,” Geoff Stokes from the committee said.
Councillor Stuart Halligan said Cardinia Shire Council wanted the property to be sold off and for the site to finally be used. He explained that the council’s strategic planning team would be looking into what the site could be used for.
“We don’t really want it to be an industrial eyesore in the middle of town,” he said.
At the township meeting Cr Halligan said that whatever the site was used for would need to complement Cochrane Park.
“It could become a really attractive part of town,” he said.
Cr Halligan noted that the population in the township was growing and that the next five years would see a change in the area.
