Two killed in 10 minutes

IN TEN tragic minutes, separate smashes claimed the lives of two Pakenham residents on Monday night.
A 42-year-old woman was struck by a car in Narre Warren at about 6pm and, just 10 minutes later, a collision in Malvern East killed a man in his 50s.
Police said the Pakenham woman was crossing Narre Warren North Road, when she was hit by a south bound Toyota Station wagon at about 6pm.
The driver, a 56-year-old Narre Warren South man, was not injured in the collision and assisted police at the scene. At 6.10pm a Pakenham man police believe to be in his 50s smashed into the back of a Barina which had stopped at an intersection in Malvern East near Chadstone Shopping centre.
Both cars were pushed through the Capon Street and Middle Road intersection and the Pakenham man died at the scene.
The driver of the Barina is assisting police with their investigation.
Police are preparing reports for the Coroner.
