
WAYNE Johnson and Darren Sidebottom won through to the final of the Winter Cup at Cardinia Beaconhills Golf Club, after defeating Aaron Couper and Mark Henderson on Saturday.
They will play Wayne Hassall and David Brook, who beat Roy Solomon and Ron Gracie, 3/2.
A Grader John Ackaoui (six) is proving too hard to beat after winning Saturday’s stableford for the second successive week. Ackaoui returned a score of 44 points.
Graeme Taylor (17) won B Grade with 39 points and C Grade went to Charlie Miranda (21) with 41 points, on a countback.
Sunday’s stableford was won by Mick Young. Playing off a handicap of 25, he returned 41 points.
Meanwhile, playing off a handicap of 23, Gus deHoogd returned the best score in Tuesday’s stableford with 44 points. He beat George Grant (21) on a countback. The ladies Winter Cup final was played in fine sunny conditions last Wednesday, with Jean Wheatley (27) and Robin Lafferty (38) winning the title from Marilyn Ford and Jenny Chandler 4/3.
Libby Michell (27) won the daily competition with 37 stableford points, while Heather Hamilton won nearest the pin on the sixth hole and Phyllis Woods won the 15th. The A Grade pro pin was won by Kerri Greig and Kim Pitcher won B Grade. Ross Millard (21) was the winner of Thursday’s stableford with 42 points from Russell Smart (27) with 41 points.
The Cardinia Beaconhills race day was held at Pakenham on Sunday.
