MEMBERS of the Beaconsfield Junior Fire Brigade have been selected to compete in this year’s National Australian Fire Cadet Championships.
Hayden Dent, Timothy Doring and Nicolas Rudd will be representing Australia in the event, which is designed for children aged 14 and 15 years and junior leaders.
The trio are part of the Junior Volunteer Development Program that targets children between 11 and 16 years of age at local fire brigades within the Cardinia Shire.
It is a free program where children learn life long skills such as firefighting, belonging, fire safety, volunteering, leadership, skill development, community spirit, commitment, fitness, responsibility, challenges, fun, teamwork and friendship.
Southern Metro Junior Leader Jodie Weir, who was also selected, said the competition was a fabulous opportunity.
“It will include a combination of training, competition, formal functions, social activities and networking with all competitors living together in a community,” she said.
The championships will be held in October near Port Macquarie, New South Wales.
