A YARDING of mixed quality on Wednesday last week at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, saw prices vary across all categories.
Better quality head were strong with the odd standout attracting very good attention. Smaller yardings and strong demand kept the yard average similar to recent weeks.
Thirty six bullocks made to 202.2 cents with the average slightly easier at 182.2 cents.
Eight heifers of average quality lifted the top four cents to 224.2 cents with the average at 190.2 cents.
Twenty eight steers rose seven cents on average to 196.8 cents, with the top price around last week’s top of 214 cents, except one standout at 256.6 cents.
One hundred and seventy vealers eased on average to 222.4 cents, equating to three cents lighter, but the top vealer made to 184.2 cents, nine cents up on last week, for a 350 kilogram B/Blue destined for processing.
A penning of 27 bulls on Thursday contained several light weights and some lighter condition, although the top was two cents better at 180 cents the average was easier at 155.3 cents.
Fifteen bullocks sold very strongly rising 21 cents on average to 192.4 cents, with a top of 195 cents.
Three hundred and fourteen cows topped at 182.6 cents, 12 cents up on last week.
Easier condition in the dairy side saw the average slip one cent to 143.8 cents, due to a few sub 100 cent head.
