Cardinia’s 15 tonnes of e-waste

A RECORD 15 tonne of electrical waste (e-waste) was collected during the Cardinia Shire Council’s recycling day last month.
The most common items were televisions, monitors, computers and microwaves.
The council’s waste services co-ordinator Misty Johannsen said the volume of the e-waste was 66 per cent more than the drop off day held in May and previous collections.
“Thank you to all residents who participated in the collection and brought their e-waste to council’s depot,” she said.
“It was a great effort in reducing waste to landfill. Almost 100 per cent of this waste will be recovered and reused.”
The inaugural e-waste drop off day was held in November 2009, and has since hovered around the nine tonne mark.
Another e-waste recycling day will be held in the first half 2012.
