Condition and veal up

THERE were easier prices across some categories at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, on Wednesday last week as 60 extra head were yarded. Double the amount of veal was offered and the condition was above average in most pens.
Demand for easier quality head in all categories was slightly easier as the store type calves were not as present, and restockers were not as prominent in the sale.
Thirty bullocks firmed up to average four cents better at 180.9 cents, the top bullocks made to 192 cents.
Sixty five heifers eased on average with weights above last week’s yarding, which actually lifted the per head price $40.
The average was nine cents easier at 172.6 cents and the top was 192 cents.
Sixty three steers reached 199.2 cents this sale and were back slightly on average to 180.3 cents.
Some condition was missing and lighter weights were evident.
Two hundred and forty six veal eased five cents to 205.7 cents and the top was 248 cents, a repeat of last sale.
The extra yarding caught buyers off guard causing the slight movement in the average.
Bullocks and cows on Thursday both recorded good gains, with a lift in both averages.
Twenty four bullocks made to 183.6 cents and rose five cents on average to 173.9 cents. Condition was good, with average weights marginally lighter.
Three hundred and eleven cows gained three cents to 144.1 cents, extra pens of lighter dairy cows saw the average weights back slightly, but demand for both heavy beef and dairy, and lighter head is still strong. Cows made to 168.6 cents this week.
Thirty five bulls slipped slightly on average, easing two cents to 157.8 cents and making to a top of 176.2 cents.
