A VERY even sale of weights and quality saw little to no movement in prices on Wednesday last week at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul.
Quality was fairly even across the pens and both processors and restockers were keen to obtain necessary head and this kept competition brisk throughout the sale.
An extra large yarding of vealers saw the top price slip marginally but the higher end prices remained fairly similar across a fair percentage of the pens.
Bullocks averaged slightly heavier than last sale and averaged $50 per head dearer.
Heifers sold strong and saw a rise in the top price but some easier quality in some pens saw a slip in the average.
Steers remained firm on average and saw the top rise as quality and weights improved on recent sales.
Ninety five bullocks averaged one cent easier at 179.5 cents and topped at 193 cents.
Thirty six heifers topped at 193 cents to average two cents easier at 170.7 cents.
Eighty two steers remained steady on average and made to 210 cents.
Three hundred and twenty six veal eased 1.5 cents on average but weighed heavier with a $20 rise in the per head price.
Veal this sale sold to a top of 242 cents.
Slightly easier prices on Thursday with two major buyers absent. Less heavy beef cows were also evident and both these were the major cause in the slip.
Three hundred and thirty one cows eased seven cents to 137 cents.
The heavier dairy cows kept the per head value up this week.
Cows made to 165 cents. A larger yarding of 54 bulls with some good quality heavy bulls present saw their top price rise to 182.2 cents.
Smaller frame bulls attracted less attention causing a six cent slip in the average to 151.1 cents.
The Draw for Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 December is as follows: 1, Landmark; 2, Scotts; 3, SEJ; 4, Elders; 5, Gibbon.
