THE Garfield Golf Club travelled to Mirboo North on Saturday to take on the locals in the annual challenge event for the Jabba Jabba Shield.
It was well worth the trip as young Pete Vanderhorst led Garfield to victory with 39 points, Duane Peacock was next best on 38 points. Garfield’s average score was 33.8 which was too good for the home side who averaged 32.4.
Back at Garfield a reduced field still shot some great scores with Terry Webster (12) winning A Grade with 41 points. Lou Milner (20) played high quality golf to win B Grade with 42 points while John Dineen (23) was too good in C Grade with 40 points.
Down the line balls went to B.Lidstone 42, G.Turner, M.Whyte, M.Adkin, P.Skinner and G.Gray on 40 with S.Male, R.Norton, C.Hunter, N.Watson and S.Fordaam on 39 points.
Nearest the pins went to G.Gray (fourth), B.Bateup (eighth), M.Hirt (ninth), C.Hunter (11th), C.Hardy (14th) and P.Govaars on the 16th. Closest second shots went to D.Smith on the fifth and D.Craig from Howlong on the seventh.

Garfield ladies played a Stableford event last week and it was Vikki Templeton (15) who won the day with 37 points. Hilary Hockley had 36 points on her first game back at Garfield while Meredith Bowers and Cheryl Lewis also had good days on the same score. Cheryl Lewis took out the best nine hole score while nearest the pins went to F.Air (eighth) and L.Pinner on the 11th.

The warmer weather brought out the shorts and a good field with fifty six competitors playing in the Stableford competition.
Dean Bassed (15) won the day with 42 points from runners-up Peter King (23) and Charlie Barnes (15) both on 41 points. Balls down the line went to Brian Tindell (14) on 40 points with Noel Needham (23) and Nigel Goldsworthy (26) both finishing on 39 points.
Nearest the pins went to T.Franklin (fourth), H.Thomas (eighth), P.Lacey (ninth), M.Kelly (11th), D.Bassed (14th) and G.Mckay on the 16th. Secret nine winner was P.King.

Mick (just another par) Neylen (9) won the competition with 21 points from runners-up P.Keyers and P.Vanderhorst both on 20 points.
Nearest the pins went to B.Lidstone (fourth), J.Nibbs (eighth) and Leesa Matthews who won on the ninth and then backed that up by taking out the lucky draw.

The Stephen Shield Open Mixed event was played on Sunday and it was Grant and Amanda Mclure who won the day with a gross 78, nett 67.125. Runners-up were George and Gwen Vitiritti with 86 gross, 67.675 with Jeremy Green and Mandy Street in third position with a score of 91 gross, 68.875 nett. Down the line balls went to Glen Laity and Jeanette Mitchell on 69.75, Ron and Wendy Norton an 70 and Terry Garratt and Karen McGregor on 72.75. Open Stableford winner was Anthony Power with 36 points.
