Laser tag venue plan is off target

COUNCILLORS have refused an application to build an outdoor laser tag venue in Pakenham, saying it was a good idea in the wrong place.
Councillor Graeme Moore said the facility, planned for 245 Pakenham Road in Pakenham, would have an adverse impact on the surrounding rural area and was not compatible with the green wedge zone that covered the property.
“While I promote local business and things for youth to do in our shire, I cannot support this facility in this place,” Cr Moore said.
Cr Moore had the support of colleague and youngest councillor Brett Owen who said while such a facility was needed in the shire the site in question would be appropriate.
“I encourage the applicant to look for another site,” Cr Owen said.
His sentiment was echoed by councillor Collin Ross who said it was a great idea in the wrong location.
“It’s really sad for ideas like this when they are simply in the wrong place,” Cr Ross said.
Councillor Graeme Legge supported the proposal, declaring he had played laser strike in the past.
“There was a good deal of laughter and fun for all involved,” Cr Legge said.
“I believe the environmental, social and economical benefits far outweigh the negatives.”
