THE traditional New Year’s Day Pakenham Picnic Races provided the perfect setting for families and friends to kick off 2012 on Sunday.
An informal relaxed atmosphere has been a feature of the day since the Picnic Racing Club was formed in 1875 and this year’s crop of locals and visitors certainly carried on the tradition.
Eskys, sun-hats, umbrellas and even a kids swimming pool were the tools of choice to combat the searing temperature.
On the track, local trainers Peter Foster and Paul Kramer started the year off in successful fashion while Music Lover, trained in Kilmore by Karyn Brewster took home the Pakenham Picnic Cup.
A fine spread for picnic
