THE face of the Cardinia Shire Council for more than 16 years has retired.
Dot Bailey, who has worked in the area for most of her life, was known to many residents as a receptionist for the council for 11 years and later spent five years working in customer service.
She decided it was the right time to be directing more of her attention elsewhere – to her grandchildren, to friends and to travelling.
She said that while she was dreading retiring at first, she is now looking forward to it. “I want to hopefully do some volunteer work, I’ve spoken with Jeni from 4Cs about helping out there next year,” Ms Bailey said.
“I’m going to join the local Probus club to keep myself busy and my grandson starts kinder for three days a week next year so I’ve volunteered to drop him off in the morning one day and pick him up two afternoons.
“I also look forward to catching up with friends a lot more than what I do now.
“I have made a lot of friends at the shire over the years and I will be keeping in touch with a lot of them.”
She will be staying in the country for about 18 months before embarking on a trip to England, to Wales and Ireland.
Ms Bailey said she had a good run as an employee of Cardinia Shire Council.
She said she will miss everyone she has had the pleasure of knowing, but will endeavour to keep in touch with all of them.
“All the familiar faces that come in and working with my friends, I’ll be sad to let go, but I will keep in touch with everyone,” Ms Bailey said.
“I’d like to thank everyone for all the support I’ve had from the community over the years, while I was on reception and customer service.”
