Cracking weather for a cracking field

THE Pakenham Golf Club kicked off this year’s Saturday competition with the January monthly medal on the line and a cracking field of 155 players tried their luck in near perfect conditions.
Matthew Shores (11) needed a barrow to carry home all his prizes after shooting a 75 off the stick to win the medal on a count back with a nett score of 64. Shores also won the A Grade competition, the best scratch score for the day and the Super competition.
Noel Boyd could be excused for kicking Shores in the shin next time they cross paths after running second in both the medal and the Super comp. The consolation prize was a win in B Grade for Boyd who also fired in a 64 nett. Ray Milnes (22) chimed in with a 66 nett to take home C Grade while Murray O’Dwyer claimed third in the Super comp with a nett 65 to cap off a great day of scoring.
Nearest the pins went to Bob Moffitt (second), Geoff Percival (fifth), Tom ‘Ted’ Cassidy (eighth), Rob Sandiford (14th) and Matthew Hogan on the 16th. The best second shots for the day went to Patrick Farrell (third), Ron Carroll (sixth), Rob Sandiford (11th) and Murray O’Dwyer on the 17th.
Longest drives went to the sweet swinging Mick McManus in A Grade, Andrew Stow in B Grade and Alan McArthur in C Grade.

Competition winner was Damien Rhyne (20) with a whopping 48 points winning on a count back from Jeffrey Le Busque who was stiff to break his handicap by 12 shots but still go down for the day. Balls down the line went to 38 points.

Jeffrey Le Busque backed up his 48 points on Monday with another scorching round of golf to win the competition with a nett 63. Rod Cameron was runner-up with a nett 64 and balls down the line went to a nett 70. The best single shots for the day went to Ron Cronjaeger (fifth), Robert Yates (eighth), Bill Taberer (14th) and Robert Collins on the 16th. Taberer took out the Super comp with Collins taking home the Super comp nearest the pin.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:WEDNESDAY TWILIGHT

Competition winner was Mick Boyd winning with 23 points from Alex Green on 22 points. Balls down the line went to 17 points on a count back and nearest the pins went to Matthew Ahern on the second and Mick Boyd on the eighth. Social winner was Tyler Guam and the raffle winner was Glenn Charles.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:WEDNESDAY NIGHT TEES AND TWILIGHT GOLF

The club holds a nine-hole twilight golf competition every Wednesday right through to the close of daylight savings. Tee times start at 3.00pm and members and guests are both welcome.
Follow the golf with dinner at the club from 5.30pm to 8.00pm. Members, guests and visitors are all invited to try out the new menu at a reasonable cost. The first Wednesday of the month is a roast carvery with all other weeks an a la carte menu.
