Paul Sherar will share his feed pad experiences.THE Sherar/Ould farm at Loch will be one of three properties to be inspected during a Future Ready Farming System feed pad bus tour starting at Loch on Tuesday 7 February.
The tour will also take in Peter and Elaine Notman’s Poowong farm and Megan Kirk and Matt Loader’s Krowera property.
The days will be led by On Farm Consulting’s Matt Harms with DPIV extension officer Barrie Bradshaw covering effluent management issues and feed pad design.
Dairying for Tomorrow co-ordinator Gillian Hayman said the day was a great opportunity to weigh-up the potential benefits of installing a feed pad.
“The decision to build a feed pad is not an easy one,” Gillian said.
“In the past 15 years, parts of our region have seen only one very wet year and a couple of very dry years.
“Often the best way to help with planning is to get out and learn from other farmers.
The 7 February tour will start at the Loch Recreation Reserve at 10.30am, with the bus returning to Loch no later than 3pm.
