Pakenham's Norm Box was in the thick of the action at Pakenham Bowling Club on Saturday.Pakenham’s Norm Box was in the thick of the action at Pakenham Bowling Club on Saturday.

THE Pakenham Bowling Club welcomed the return of pennant competition on Saturday but at the end of the day most players were wishing they had another week off.
A very gloomy start to the year with all sides being beaten including some we had already pencilled in for a win.
Pakenham One went to Mulgrave Country Club to play the leagues bottom side.
M.C.C. hadn’t won a game all season but then they met Pakenham. The kindest comment would be that we tried hard, for most of the game. The final scores were Mulgrave 78 shots to Pakenham 70 with four points coming our way. It’s a hard road home from here fellas.
Pakenham Two played host to Cranbourne Three and had no more joy than the Ones eventually going down by 20 shots. Cranbourne’s 87 to 67 win was well deserved with Pakenham winning only one rink for the day. This is not the way to Division Two.
Pakenham Three hosted Sandringham One on the new synthetic and it seemed the new surface suited Sandringham better than the home side. Although three rinks got up by a very good margin the fourth rink weren’t so lucky going down by a large number. The locals went down by 16 shots and six valuable points fell into the bin.
Pakenham’s Fourths went to Sandringham to play on their carpet and were promptly shown how to do it. Pakenham went down by a whopping 57 shots and lost on all rinks in a disappointing performance.
On a brighter note, congratulations go to W.Noy and R.Haskayne for winning the club pairs competition in a thrilling final that went all the way to a tie-breaker. Well done guys, a great effort.
Barefoot bowls is on again this Friday and all are welcome with children under strict parental supervision. Flat shoes or bare feet are required. Come along and have a bowl and then enjoy a snag and a drink at public bar prices.
Casey Triples are on Thursday night.
