Let’s be proactive

HOW sad it was to read Mr Rogers’ letter (Gazette, 11 January), if only to realise that a lot of his observations were indeed true.
Then it occurred to me that we, as a community, have gone from being proactive to being reactive.
Once upon a time we had council “road patrols” who would indeed patrol our roads and fix things.
Nowadays the only time we seem to see any council vehicle is when and if we complain about something.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m certainly not targetting any individuals here and there are certainly some brilliant staff working for council however I was more than a little amused last week when the little list of jobs I presented was met with an agitated “we have people who drive around and do that”, to which I replied “clearly not… and that’s why some of those items have been there for several years”.
Therefore I encourage as many readers and residents as possible to take note of their area and pick up a phone, email or drop into Cardinia Council to report as many faults as you can find and keep on reporting them until they are resolved.
Maybe then we will all see an improvement in the way our town looks.
Oh and councillors, please take note, things need to improve.
