Beau wheels a big stick

THE Pakenham Golf Club had another great turn up of members this week with the course being in fantastic condition for this week’s Pro-Am.
180 players took part in the February Monthly Medal and it was B Grade player Tim Sallai (18) who took home the medal and bragging rights for the shortest month of the year. Sallai came in with an outstanding nett 63 to win the day.
The A Grade winner was Murray O’Dwyer (12) with a nett 68 while Kevin Pearson (22) won C Grade with a nett 67. Balls down the line went to 72 nett with the best scratch score coming from Shannon Sandiford with a 74.
Nearest the pins went to Paul Hobson (2nd), Don Towan (5th), Glenn Hildebrand (8th), Nick McQualter (14th) and Wayne Lamers on the 16th. Closest second shots went to Shannon Sandiford (3rd), Brian Webster (6th), Jon Game (11th) and his playing partner Mark Hatton on the 17th.
Longest drive winners were A Grade Beau Wheeler, B Grade Grant McCullough and C Grade Matt Hogan while Tim Sallai won the Super Competition from Rob Nobelius and Peter Zoldak. Next week’s competition is a Stableford event.

The Monday competition winner was Mitchell Dempster (19) with 41 points from runner-up Dave Lummis with 40 points. Balls down the line went to 34 points and nearest the pins went to Ashley Graham (2nd), Malcolm Clay (8th) and Geoff Sullivan on the 14th.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:Wednesday

The Wednesday Stroke competition saw Kevin Salau have a great score of 65 nett to win from runner-up Cliff Pain on 66 and Rhys Dempster coming third with a 67 nett. Balls down the line went to 73 nett on a count-back and nearest the pins went to Al Campbell (2nd), Dylan Jack Murphy (5th), Ron Horne (8th) and Bill Taberer on the 16th. Super-comp winner was Ray Shalders and NTP was Trevor Male.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:Wednesday Twilight

The twilight competition winner was Travis Jack with 24 points on a count-back from runner-up Dylan Jack Murphy on 24 points. Balls down the line went to 19 points on a count-back with the social winner being S.Va and the raffle winner Trevor Male.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:Wednesday Night Tees and Twilight Golf

The club holds a nine-hole twilight event every Wednesday that will go through until the end of Daylight savings. Tee times start at 3.00pm and members and guests are both welcome.
Follow the golf with dinner at the club from 5.30pm to 8.00pm. Members and guests are all invited to try out the new menu at a reasonable cost.
The first Wednesday of the week is a roast carvery and all other weeks are an a la carte menu.

The Sunday Competition was won by Craig Clissold (20) with 43 points from Gary Bennett (16) with 39 points and balls down the line went to 36 points.

@BT Sub Sport Gaz:Ladies

THE Pakenham ladies returned to the course on Thursday for the first round of the Summer Cup and an excellent field of 41 players took part.
The winner of the front nine was Jenny Bayard with 31.5 and balls down the line went to Marg Blake, Muriel Mills and Joan Young on 31.5 and Adele Mahony on 33.
The back nine winner was Jan Creagh with a 32 nett with Dawn Van Roy 35 and Ann Bell 36.5 getting balls down the line. The putting winner for the day was Nola Kerslake and the nearest the pin went to Sue Menzel.
Thursday also saw the presentation of the 2011 Encouragement Award to Leah Barker while the 2011 Saturday trophies went to Liz Garvey for the Stableford aggregate and gobblers. Maria Warburton won Eclectic.
The winner from Saturday 4 January was the very consistent Liz Garvey with a nett 79.
The hit off time is 8am each Thursday until the end of daylight savings. Please contact the shop or ladies Captain to ascertain your exact hit off time.
