Baw Baw prices dry out

A SIMILAR yarding on Wednesday last week at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, compared to the previous week, saw demand ease marginally, coupled with dryer conditions and a reduction in quality, causing prices to ease in certain categories.
Heavy weights kept per head prices up in some pen, mainly heifers, where restockers are still strong.
Top sales for all categories dipped slightly but strong demand for top quality head kept the top end prices at a reasonable level.
Sixty seven bullocks eased 11 cents to 157.3 cents and reached 185 cents, 75 heifers slipped four cents to 164.2 cents and made to 208 cents, 93 steers slipped eight cents to 175.6 cents and made to 205 cents and 639 veal rose five cents to average 205.9 cents with a top of 239.2 cents.
On Thursday 27 bulls saw demand again ease as they averaged 10 back to 142.8 cents.
Heavier weights kept the per head price firm on last week.
Bulls made to 174.2 cents, 29 bullocks topped at 171.6 cents to ease six cents on average to 160.2 cents.
Three hundred and seven cows saw their average slip four cents to 130.8 cents, with the top making 168 cents for processor cows.
