All pulling

IT was a lot of pain for a good cause but bragging rights for the next year made it all worthwhile.
Raising awareness and bringing the often taboo subject of suicide into the light, CFA teams from Berwick, Narre Warren, Beaconsfield and Narre Warren North took part in a truck pull event at the Berwick Show on Saturday to raise awareness for beyondblue.
Winning Narre Warren North CFA captain Shaun Trotter said the CFA was approached by the show committee to take part in the competition.
“When they said it was to raise awareness for teen suicide and depression, it’s pretty sad, so we thought we’d help out,” he said.
“It was a lot of pain for us – especially since we had to do it twice.”
Teams had to pull the truck 30 metres, but the first time both Narre Warren North CFA and Berwick tied.
Finally Narre Warren North won the pull and the $1000 prize money.
Not bad for a team who had only attempted pulling their fire truck twice.
“Once it was all over teams decided to give the prize money to beyondblue which was great, even better that we could walk away with bragging rights for the next year.”
