Athletes compete on racetrack

WHERE was the last place you went for a run?
Around the local oval? On one of the many running tracks around the area?
How about on a racetrack with a top speed of 270 kilometres an hour?
For a lucky few over the weekend, Athletics Victoria hosted the second leg of the state road relay championships at Sandown Racecourse – with runners from seven to 70 taking to the bitumen around the 3.1km picturesque course.
The Little Athletics racing champions took to the course first – with runners from Casey Little Athletics Club and Cockatoo Little Athletics Club both faring exceptionally well.
Casey won the team’s title on 94 points and Cockatoo finishing fourth on 36. Casey won the under-10 girls category, the under-15 girls and had three second place finishes in the under-7 boys, under-8 girls and under-13 girls.
Cockatoo’s youngsters battled hard all day, with the under-9 boys finishing sixth.
In the senior racing, Casey Cardinia Athletics Club also had some impressive results, with the Women’s Division 2 team – Samantha Prime, Allana Landolfo and Siobhan Jagusch – pipped into second by Glenhuntly and the women’s Division 4 team – Joanne Pratt, Jess Prime and Megan Gillette – and the mens’ Division 4 team – Eddie Wilson, Lochlan Lyness, Peter Dutton, Dan Langelaan and Rod Prime – placing fourth in the senior men’s event
