IN RELATION to the article “It’s two cheers for council” (Gazette, 20 February), it’s wonderful to see three of Casey’s residents competing on the world stage and I wish them all the very best in their endeavours.
I have some reservation however about council giving money to residents. In this instance the council gave money to residents to participate in an activity that they presumably can’t afford.
I believe the issue of grants and ward funding needs to be reviewed. In this day and age of belt-tightening and ever-soaring council rates, I find it difficult to understand why a recipient of a grant or ward fund should receive money before a service or capital improvement is delivered.
Jim Papalois,
Endeavour Hills.
Muted cheers
