Scribbled scourge

WELL done Star News (June 5 article by Danielle Galvin) to spotlight the tasteless graffiti scourge that is inflicted on the community. These co-ordinated and random acts of vandalism and property damage seem to be largely ignored by the authorities.
I find it strange that with CCTV in trains, public places and on the highways, these nongs can’t be identified and dealt with appropriately.
Poor parental supervision, dysfunctional families, lack of meaningful distractions in Casy/Cardinia and a general community malaise on this so-called victimless crime contribute to this problem. Exacerbating the problem is the national media which seems quite happy to promote “street art” and “flavour of the month” causes.
Notwithstanding this we now learn that a councillor has just completed a visit to Arizona, at taxpayer expense no doubt, to learn the “latest”. The latest in what – new chemical removal agents, preferred surface treatments /building materials, behaviour modifications, community amenities and teenage entertainment?
I would have thought that most of this was readily available on the web with a good search engine and if a presence was indeed needed in the US then perhaps someone from the engineering department who is charged with clean-up procedures, building specification permit approvals etc would have been more valuable, as would a copy of the conference notes !
I’m sure the post-conference networking was invaluable Jodie.
