Sour grapes

IT WAS an interesting letter to the editor last week from a disgruntled former Liberal, Chris Andrews. It was most fitting that he noted Geoff Shaw, the rogue Member for Frankston.
Chris Andrews was a candidate in the 2009 pre-selection for the seat of Gembrook for the Victorian Liberal Party, however the pre-selectors in Gembrook overwhelmingly voted to ensure Mr Andrews did not have an opportunity to represent them.
In a case of sour grapes, he then resigned from the party, and it is alleged he threatened to run as an independent and preference the Labor Party.
While Chris Andrews now wants to use his letters to the editor to try to discredit our local member Brad Battin, I assure you that the pre-selectors got this decision 100 per cent correct.
Mr Battin has delivered in Officer as he committed, the Officer PSP was signed off, we have a new special school that is world-class and the new secondary college is underway.
Finally I find the letter interesting more for what it left out. Chris Andrews was anti the Liberal Government policy to deliver PSOs to protect public transport users, a policy that now means travellers can be safe with PSOs nearly at all stations. If Chris Andrews was in parliament maybe he would have sided with Labor to block a policy that has delivered a safer public transport system. Thank goodness Chris Andrews wasn’t pre-selected as the Liberal candidate for Gembrook – maybe he’s considering running as an independent and possibly teaming up with Geoff Shaw.
Andrew McNabb,
Officer.
