No care for Medicare

I WRITE in response to a letter written by Carol Porter (Future Finances, Gazette, 16 July).
I note your pleasure in the Napthine government agreeing to maintain concession rates for energy and water.
I would like to point out that this would not be necessary if not for the cruel and dishonest Federal Budget.
This is a budget that will further increase the cost of living pressures on those least able do cope with it.
I specifically mention the Medicare co-payment.
It is with interest that I am yet to hear any state Liberal politician come out in opposition to it.
The co-payment not only applies for each doctor’s visit but to each pathology test.
Doctor – $7
Cholesterol test – $7
Blood sugar test – $7
Total – $21
It would seem to me whether it be at a state or federal level, the Liberal Party continues to hold utter contempt for Medicare which is the universal healthcare system that Australians hold very closely to their hearts.
My suggestion to those concerned about the cost of living is to vote out Brad Battin and the Liberal party and send a message to the federal Liberal party that they need to keep their promise and not cut the vital funds required to adequately fund improved health and education.
Jack Valic,
Pakenham.
