IN THE Footy Shorts column last week a Berwick Football Club member suggested ROC’s ground should be renamed Rob Porter Reserve.
Back in 1977, I moved into my first home in Narre Warren. I worked in the vegie garden at Clyde on Saturdays to pay off the second mortgage.
I joined the Cora Lynn Football Club in 1978.
In the business where I was employed, I met Rob Porter through the Master Builders Association and within a short time at Cora Lynn, while playing reserves, I ran across Rob and his wife Carol on a regular basis.
I retired from Cora Lynn in 1987, but as an avid reader always picked up the Gazette on a Wednesday morning to see what had been going on.
I still see Carol once a year at the Make A Wish Golf Day.
I fully endorse Footy Shorts and the Berwick member’s suggestion that the ROC ground, with council approval, be named Rob Porter Reserve.
Michael Quinn,
Narre Warren.
