Rate rise threat

RATEPAYERS, please be alert! This year rates could increase astronomically before the State Government imposes a cap on local government rates throughout Victoria.
Cardinia Council has already increased our rates by 12.1 per cent in the last two years. Any further increase should be contained to three per cent – no more.
The council must be transparent and live within its means – curb spending, work smarter, tighten contracts and limit development in these financially difficult times for the community.
Wide consultation should occur before the draft budget is presented. Our financial circumstances must be considered and we need better representation by councillors. We need to be given priority over developers.
Let’s hear from other ratepayers. What do you expect from councillors in this election year?
Tilly Vervoort,
Pakenham.
