Good sale despite fall in numbers

It was a very good sale last Wednesday at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, with 80 less head penned and prices easing slightly overall.
A few less heifers were penned in comparison to the previous sale and veal numbers also reduced slightly.
The yard average was 206.3 cents.
Eighty five bullocks made to 234 cents, up nine cents, and averaged 202.0 cents, back seven cents; 99 heifers made to 234.2 cents, up eight cents, and averaged 182.3 cents, back 11 cents; 100 steers made to 234 cents, back one cent, and averaged 199.7 cents, back two cents and 414 vealers made to 268 cents, back four cents, and averaged 216.9 cents, back five cents.
Thursday’s Bull and Cow Sale was down 106 head, and demand remained firm to stronger in all sections except the bulls, which was down slightly with the average back 3.5 cents.
Twenty five bullocks sold to a top of 2.00 to average 192.7 cents, up seven cents and 434 cows reached 210.0 cents, back two cents, and with some better quality cows the average was up 1.8 cents to 155.8 cents, with the yard average up 1.4 cents to 161.4 cents.
Monday’s Calf Sale contained 305 head with Friesian heifers selling to $580, beef calves reached $250, bull calves topped at $91 and Jersey heifers $200.
