Decreased numbers in firm market

There were approximately 240 cows and 25 bulls penned at VLE Pakenham, representing a decrease of 130 head week-on-week.
Most of the usual buying group was present and operating, not all fully, in a generally firm market.
Quality improved in the limited offering with a larger proportion of heavy weight beef cows and a more limited selection of light and medium weights on offer.
Demand was solid from processors keen to secure a share of the limited offering.
Most averages were firm with the odd dearer sale while the handful of heavy weight bulls improved a few cents.
Most light and medium weight cows sold from 152 cents to 200 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight cows made mostly between 177 cents and 220 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight bulls sold mostly between 245 cents and 249 cents per kilogram.
