Market increases on falling numbers

There were approximately 300 export and 700 young cattle penned at VLE Pakenham, representing a decrease of 400 head week-on-week.
There was a full field of buyers present and competing in a dearer market in most places.
Heavy weight cattle were in shorter supply and there was a better selection of grain assisted yearling cattle on offer.
Yearling trade steers lifted 10 cents to 12 cents per kilogram while a smaller selection of feeder steers selling firm.
Yearling heifers suited to the trade improved five cents to 10 cents per kilogram.
The handful of grown steers and bullocks gained five cents to 11 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers improved seven cents while the crossbred portion eased a few cents with quality an issue.
The vealers sold mostly from 260 cents to 336 cents per kilogram.
Yearling trade steers made between 285 cents and 335 cents per kilogram.
Yearling heifers suited to the trade sold between 267 cents and 336 cents per kilogram.
Feeder steers made from 257 cents to 299 cents with the heifer portion from 244 cents to 281 cents per kilogram.
Grown steers and bullocks sold from 272 cents to 326 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight grown heifers made between 244 cents and 295 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers sold between 243 cents and 248 cents with the crossbred portion between 237 cents and 285 cents per kilogram.
