Sales combine for Easter

THERE will be a combined sale on Wednesday 23 March at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange because of the Easter long weekend and no sale on Thursday the 24th.
The calf sale due Monday the 28th will be transferred to Tuesday 29 March.
An extra 130 vealers last week saw a yarding of 558 head for the Wednesday fat sale and again the bar was lifted as the top reached 351.6 cents per kilo.
Extra pens of secondary veal held back the average slightly but overall the sale was strong.
Also yarded were several pens of stores averaging around 195 kg and making to 360 per kilo.
Bullock numbers were similar to the previous week and demand remained firm to strong.
Heifer numbers were also on par with the previous week and remained firm, and steers lifted on the back of improved demand recording the best lift in average on the day.
A total of 48 bullocks topped at 300 cents, up 14 cents, and averaged 275.3 cents, up 13 cents.
Thirty-five heifers topped at 280 cents, back 30 cents, and averaged 261.5 cents, firm.
Eighty-four steers topped at 301.2 cents, firm, and averaged 272.2 cents, up 16 cents.
A total of 363 veal topped at 351.6 cents, up two cents, and averaged 281.6 cents, back 19 cents.
The yard average was 277.1 cents, back 1.5 cents.
A smaller yarding on Thursday saw bulls reach a top of 302.6 cents up six cents and the average for the 21 bulls sold was up 16 cents to 252.6 cents, extra bullocks sold to strong demand making to 262 cents to average 241.7 cents, and there were 508 cows yarded selling to a top of 284.2 cents and averaging eight cents up at 191.7 cents, and the yard average for the Thursday was 198.2 cents up 11 cents.
