Steers and vealers strong

WITH the Easter break over and a lighter yarding before the weekend, numbers were similar to the previous sale with 545 head penned at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange on 30 and 31 March.
Fewer bullocks saw some buyers missing for this category which slipped slightly, heifer numbers were up and although demand was strong in the top end secondary heifers eased, steers sold to firmer demand and the result was a good lift in the top price and an improved average.
The vealers sale was also stronger with good sales in the top end and the secondary pens were firm on the previous sale. This week the yard average was 274.2 cents.
Twenty-seven bullocks made to 286 cents, back 14 cents, and averaged 260.5 cents, back 15 cents.
