Buyers pull back from dearer market

THERE were approximately 340 export and 280 young cattle penned at the Victorian Livestock Exchange representing a decrease of 380 head week-on-week.
There was a full field of buyers present but not all operating fully in a mostly dearer market.
Quality improved in the larger offering of grown steers and bullocks while the limited selection of young cattle were more mixed.
A handful of vealers suited to butcher orders eased a few cents because of their quality.
Yearling steers and heifers to the trade improved five cents to 10 cents for most and more in places. Feeder cattle eased five cents to 10 cents for most.
Grown steers lifted six cents to 13 cents while the better quality in the bullocks saw prices jump 20 cents.
Heavy weight vealers to butchers sold from 328 cents to 362 cents.
Yearling trade steers made between 346 cents and 369 cents.
Yearling heifers to the trade sold between 307 cents and 354 cents.
Feeder steers made from 312 cents to 336 cents with the heifer portion from 282 cents to 337 cents.
Grown steers sold from 311 cents to 360 cents.
Bullocks made between 316 cents and 359 cents.
A handful of heavy grown heifers sold between 280 cents and 324 cents.
Heavy weight crossbred manufacturing steers made from 275 cents to 330 cents.
